THE CONCEPT
Roman Currency — in the round.
Carl Craig at center floor.
360-degree configuration. 65-foot vaulted ceiling. Roman columns.
No front. No back. Only inside.
Capitale becomes the physical form of Carl Craig's music — the spatial, breathing architecture his work has always demanded. Since Planet E Communications in 1992, his work has been about space: how sound breathes, expands, fills architecture. A 65-foot reverberant ceiling inside a room designed as a central gathering space is his music made physical.

THE ARTIST
CARL CRAIG
Electronic DJ, producer and composer Carl Craig was a pivotal part of Detroit’s second wave of techno in the ’90s. Known by many aliases – including Paperclip People and 69 – he incorporates bold melodies and flickers of ambient, jazz, new wave and Krautrock into his sets, guided by a fascination with futurism.
Craig has produced mixes for the likes LCD Soundsystem, Hot Chip, Friendly Fires and Pet Shop Boys; and his label, Planet E Communications, is home to fellow Detroit names Kevin Saunderson and Moodymann.

Capitale was built in 1882 as a Beaux-Arts banking hall.
65-foot vaulted ceiling. Roman columns. A central floor designed to hold the weight of an empire.
For one night it holds something else.
Carl Craig at center floor. Audience surrounding on all sides.
360 degrees. No front. No back. The room becomes the instrument — and everyone inside it is part of the same moment simultaneously.
This is Roman Currency.
